The OnePlus 8 Pro Smartphone

The OnePlus 8 Pro Smartphone

What is OnePlus? Maybe you haven’t heard of it.

OnePlus is a "flagship killer" phone company based in China. The term "flagship killer" refers to their decision to put affordable phones on the market that have the same specs and features as flagship companies such as Apple and Samsung. In this way, they “never settle,” which is their slogan. While OnePlus may not always deliver mega smartphones like the flagship companies, their goal is to deliver smartphones that have the same quality (or nearly the same) without the huge price tag. That means getting more bang for your buck.

However, the OnePlus 8 Pro is much more competitive than its predecessors, moving from "flagship killer" to "flagship." It is now outperforming other phones like the iPhone 11 Pro in camera specs and battery life. And it has the same 5G connectivity as most new smartphones.

Display

The OnePlus 8 Pro has one of the best displays in 2020. It upgraded its display to a refresh rate of 120Hz (Hertz), meaning the screen refreshes 120 times per second. This produces a beautiful display, far more advanced than the OnePlus 8 version with only 90Hz. Although it should be noted, 90Hz still creates a beautiful screen. The 8 Pro has a 6.78in display screen with QHD+ resolution and HDR10+ support. This allows for a high-resolution screen that is adjustable.

Battery

Because the OnePlus 8 Pro has a higher refresh rate, more battery is required. So, OnePlus installed the largest battery they have ever used for a smartphone into their 8 Pro. This battery can not only handle their 120Hz, but also outperforms other phones in battery life. It lasts for about 10 hours and 33 minutes, which is twice as much as the iPhone 11 Pro.

Camera

The OnePlus 8 Pro has 3 cameras on the back. The standard lens is 48 megapixels, the ultrawide lens (which has a 120-degree view) also is 48 megapixels, and the telephoto lens has 8 megapixels. The front camera has 16 megapixels (the Galaxy S20 5G only has 10). What is a megapixel? Basically, they define how clear a picture is (the more megapixels, the better).

The OnePlus 8 Pro has a great camera, but that camera also has an infrared sensor, meaning certain objects that are infrared transparent can be penetrated with this infrared scanner. This allows you to see through material that your eyes cannot pierce. The sensor is used in the color filter settings, but the lens has only 5 megapixels, so the definition is not as high.

The OnePlus 8 Pro camera also provides a 3x zoom whereas the iPhone 11 Pro only has 2x zoom. This may seem trivial, but it can make the difference in taking the right picture.

Charging Features

OnePlus has come out with the "WarpCharge 30T." The WarpCharge physical cord and brick charges the 8 Pro up to 50% in 20 minutes (40 minutes to full charge); this does not overheat the phone or charging brick (although the brick is bigger than most). The wireless WarpCharge takes 30 minutes to reach over 40% charge and may slightly warm the smartphone. The OnePlus 8 Pro also provides reverse wireless charging. Essentially, the 8 Pro can charge another smartphone wirelessly.
